How It Works

From choosing your quartz to watching it fitted in your kitchen, the whole process typically takes two to three weeks. Here is exactly what happens at each stage.

Step 1: Choose Your Surface

Start by browsing our Great 8 Strata Quartz collection. Eight colours cover everything from deep ebony to clean white, with marble effects and contemporary greys in between. Use our worktop designer to visualise how each colour looks in a kitchen setting.

You will need to choose two things: thickness and coverage.

Thickness: 20mm or 30mm. 20mm gives a sleek, modern profile that suits most kitchens. 30mm has a chunkier, more substantial feel — particularly good on islands where you see the full edge. Both are structurally identical for everyday kitchen use. We have written a detailed guide to choosing between 20mm and 30mm if you want the full picture.

Coverage: 1, 1.5, or 2 slabs. A single slab covers most compact and galley kitchens. 1.5 slabs suit standard L-shaped and U-shaped layouts. Two slabs are for larger kitchens or layouts with an island. If you are not sure, measure the total run of worktop in metres — a single slab gives you roughly 3 linear metres of 600mm-deep worktop.

Not sure which colour suits your kitchen? That is normal. Screens never perfectly reproduce the look of real stone — what appears warm on a phone can look cool under kitchen spotlights. Our fitter brings physical samples to your site visit, so you can see the actual material under your own lighting before we fabricate. Step 2: Book & Pay Online

Once you have chosen your surface, thickness, and coverage, add it to your basket. The price shown at checkout is the final, total price — supply, templating, fabrication, fitting, cutouts, upstands, drainer grooves, waste removal, and warranty all included. No surprises later.

At checkout you will:

Select your preferred site visit date (minimum 7 days from order)
Enter your contact number and property details
Pay via Shopify Payments — Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Apple Pay, or Google Pay

We confirm exact site visit availability within 3 working days by telephone. If your preferred date is not available, we offer the nearest alternative. Most customers get their first or second choice.

Step 3: The Site Visit

This is the stage customers tend to be most curious about, so here is exactly what happens.

Our fitter arrives at your home at the agreed time. The visit takes 30–45 minutes. They bring a laser digital templating system — not a tape measure. This system records every dimension of your kitchen layout to an accuracy of 0.5mm.

Why does that precision matter? Kitchens are never perfectly square. Walls bow, corners drift, and floor levels shift. A typical kitchen corner is 1–3mm off true right angle. A tape measure might round that to the nearest millimetre. Laser templating captures it exactly, which means the fabricated worktop fits your kitchen — not a theoretical version of it.

During the visit, your fitter will:

Template every run of worktop, measuring angles, depths, and wall profiles
Check the kitchen for level using a spirit level across the cabinets
Photograph the entire layout for fabrication reference
Discuss cutout positions with you — where your sink, hob, and tap holes need to go
Discuss edge profiles — a standard square edge is included, with pencil round and bullnose available as options (read more about edge profiles explained)
Confirm upstand details — height, positioning, and where they start and stop
Confirm drainer groove positioning relative to your sink
Bring physical colour samples if you have not yet settled on your final colour

The site visit is also your chance to ask questions face to face. Our fitters have years of experience and can advise on everything from sink positioning to whether your cabinets need additional support for an overhanging breakfast bar. Step 4: Fabrication

After the site visit, your digital template goes directly to our fabrication partner. This is where the raw quartz slab becomes your worktop.

Fabrication uses CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machinery — the same technology used in aerospace manufacturing. The machine reads your exact template and cuts the slab to match, with tolerances measured in fractions of a millimetre.

During fabrication:

The slab is cut to your exact template dimensions
Sink, hob, and tap cutouts are precision-machined
Drainer grooves are routed at the specified positions
Your chosen edge profile is finished along all exposed edges
Every piece is quality-checked against the template before dispatch

Fabrication takes 5–7 working days. Once complete, we contact you to confirm your fitting date.

Step 5: Fitting Day

This is the part where it all comes together.

A team of two experienced fitters arrives at your home at the agreed time. They come equipped with everything needed — you do not need to provide tools, materials, or access to a power supply beyond a standard plug socket.

Here is the fitting sequence:

Removal: Your existing worktops are carefully removed and taken away. This is included in the price.
Preparation: Cabinet tops are checked for level. Any minor adjustments are made to ensure the new surface sits flat and true.
Installation: Each section of quartz is bedded onto silicone adhesive. The fitters work methodically from one end of the kitchen to the other.
Joints: Where two pieces of quartz meet, the joint is colour-matched, glued, and clamped. A well-made quartz joint is nearly invisible — you can feel it with a fingertip but you will struggle to see it.
Sealing: All edges where quartz meets wall are sealed with silicone to prevent water ingress.
Upstands: Fitted and sealed in position.
Clean-up: The team cleans the entire area, removes all packaging and waste, and leaves your kitchen ready to use.

A typical fitting takes 4–6 hours depending on the size and complexity of your kitchen. A simple galley kitchen with a single run might be done in 3 hours. A large L-shape with an island could take the full day.

What You Need to Prepare

Before fitting day, you need to make sure a few things are sorted:

Disconnect plumbing. Your sink water supply and waste pipe need to be disconnected by a plumber before our team arrives.
Disconnect gas. If you have a gas hob, it must be disconnected by a Gas Safe registered engineer. We cannot disconnect gas — nobody should except a qualified engineer.
Leave existing worktops in place. Our team removes them as part of the job. Do not remove them yourself — they help us verify the template against the actual layout.
Clear the worktop surfaces. Remove all appliances, crockery, and personal items from the worktops and the area immediately around them.
Ensure clear access. We need a clear path from your front door (or nearest entry point) to the kitchen. Quartz slabs are heavy — a 3-metre section of 30mm quartz weighs roughly 100kg.
Parking. Our van needs to park as close to your property as possible. If you have a permit zone, please arrange a visitor permit.

After Fitting

The first 24 hours: The silicone adhesive needs a full 24 hours to cure. During this time, avoid placing heavy objects on the worktop, leaning on overhangs, or running water near freshly sealed edges. Light use is fine — making a cup of tea will not cause any problems.

Day-to-day care: Warm water and a soft cloth for everyday cleaning. A mild washing-up liquid for anything stubborn. Avoid bleach, abrasive cleaners, and scouring pads. Always use a trivet for hot pans — quartz handles warmth well but sudden thermal shock from a pan straight off the hob can cause damage. Warranty: Your worktop is covered by a 10-year manufacturer warranty against material defects, plus our own fitting guarantee. Keep your order confirmation email — that is your proof of purchase and warranty document.
