Replacing Your Kitchen Worktop: A Step-by-Step Guide
Replacing a kitchen worktop takes 2-3 weeks from order to fitted. It is one of the fastest ways to transform a kitchen without the disruption and cost of a full refit. Here is what to expect at each stage.
When to Replace Your Worktop
Laminate worktops typically show their age after 8-10 years. Swelling around the sink, burn marks, and delamination at joints are clear signals. If your cabinets are structurally sound, a worktop swap makes more financial sense than a full kitchen replacement.
The Timeline: Week by Week
Week 1: Order and Site Visit
Choose your quartz worktop colour and place your order. We schedule a site visit within 3-5 working days. Our surveyor uses laser measurement to capture your kitchen dimensions to 0.5mm accuracy.
Week 2: Fabrication
Your worktop is CNC-cut from the digital template. Cutouts for sinks, hobs, and taps are precision-machined. Edges are shaped and polished. This takes 5-7 working days.
Week 3: Fitting Day
A two-person team arrives with your finished worktops. The old worktop comes off. The new quartz goes on. Silicone sealing, sink reconnection, and final checks complete the job. Most kitchens take 4-6 hours.
Plumbing and Electrics
Your existing plumbing usually reconnects directly. If you are changing sink position or style, a plumber visit may be needed — budget £100-200 for this. Hob reconnection by a Gas Safe or Part P electrician is your responsibility, though we can recommend tradespeople in your area.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Measuring yourself: Kitchens are rarely square. Professional templating prevents costly errors.
- Forgetting disconnection: Disconnect gas and electrics before fitting day.
- Choosing on screen alone: Request a sample. Screen colours vary.
